On 31^st January 2010, in An Khanh ward, Dist No. 2, Ho Chi Minh city, Thu Thiem Investment & Construction Authority, Ho Chi Minh city Department of Transport, Dist No.2 People’s Committee and Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Finance Investment Joint Stock Company (VIDIFI) held a ground breaking ceremony of 03 main roads in Thu Thiem New Urban Area, paving the way for the development of other infrastructure in the coming time.

Attending the ceremony were: Mr. Ngo Thinh Duc, Standing Deputy Minister of Transport; Mr. Bui Pham Khanh, Deputy Minister of Construction; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tai, Standing Vice President of Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee; leaders of Departments, Divisions and Agencies of Ho Chi Minh city and Dist No. 2; leaders of VIDIFI and representatives of founding shareholders; leaders of Construction Corporation No. 1, sub-contractors, businesses and investors of the city.

The project for construction of 03 main roads in Thu Thiem New Urban Area has total length of 10km invested by VIDIFI and implemented under Build and Transfer (BT) contract between VIDIFI and Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee. The 03 main roads shall be constructed by Construction Corporation No. 1 with total estimated investment capital of about VND6,730 billion, including Crescent Boulevard having length of about 3.6km with 55m wide pavement, 4 motor lanes and 2 motorbike lanes; Central Lake-Park Drive is about 3.5km long and 29m wide with 4 motor lanes and two walking lanes; Sai Gon River Water Front Park Drive has length of about 2.8km facing Dist No. 1 with 28m wide pavement, two motor lanes, two parking lanes and two walking lanes; 10 bridges shall be built on these 03 roads, flow line of some bridges are designed in accordance with standards of American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), which create not only convenience for the traffic but also the landmark of the New Urban Area, meeting the city’s requirements for a New urban area that is modern, environment friendly, diverse, sustainable, unique and impressive to the citizens, foreign and local tourists.

Ground breaking ceremony of 03 main roads in Thu Thiem New Urban Area

In the master plan for the development of Thu Thiem New Urban Area, especially after the completion of the East-West boulevard, construction of comprehensive transport infrastructure, construction investment in main roads shall pave the way for the development of Thu Thiem New Urban Area, contributing to the comprehensive development of Ho Chi Minh city in a new period.

Fund for the Project is taken from the owner’s equity and mobilized from local and foreign sources. The construction time shall be 48 months including 12 months for investment preparation and 36 months for completion and hand-over of the project calculated from the signing date of the detailed BT contract. In order to ensure the progress of the Project, Dist No. 2 People’s Committee has made a good job of calculation of a number of households subject to relocation, compensation and removal of households for site clearance. To date, 10,891 households accounting for 73.96% of the affected households have relocated and handed over their land with total area of 534.2/623 hectares in Thu Thiem island for the execution of the Project. The District have resettled over 2,000 households ensuring equity and high agreement among local people.
